Modularity and editorial autonomy for a connected, scalable, and international narrative

LAND is an international landscape architecture studio, with offices in several European cities. The new website was born from the need to showcase their extensive project portfolio and to provide the communication team with an advanced, autonomous, and flexible tool for updating content. PaperPlane handled the development of the website on WordPress, working in synergy with designers Federico Boriani and Luca Terraneo, who were responsible for UX, UI, and Art Direction, respectively.

Request
Create a highly flexible WordPress site that would showcase an extensive project portfolio and guarantee full editorial autonomy for LAND’s communication team.

Result
We developed a dynamic, accessible, and modular site with advanced features for search, project management, and job applications, providing a powerful and intuitive editorial platform.

An ambitious design supported by a modular, no-code, high-autonomy back end

The interface, custom-designed by the project partners, perfectly aligns with LAND’s aesthetic vision. We worked on dynamic components and high-fidelity visual layouts, ensuring compatibility with animated SVGs and native videos. The site also supports dark mode, managed through optimized scripts and customized CSS.

At the heart of the project is a system of composable editorial modules in WordPress. This approach allows the LAND team to build every page with maximum compositional freedom, without any technical expertise. Each module was designed to automatically adapt to the context and maintain consistency with the design system, promoting a no-code usage oriented toward autonomy and scalability.

Information Architecture on WordPress: Beyond CMS limits

To meet the needs of such an articulated site, a structure based on Custom Post Types and custom taxonomies was designed, allowing for relational and semantic content management. This approach made it possible to implement advanced search capable of cross-referencing different filters and the automatic display of related content in every section, from the project page to that of the people involved.

Each area of the site – projects, team, news, job openings – is equipped with dedicated search systems, designed to improve the user experience and facilitate access to diverse content. The project portfolio stands out for the possibility of exploring complex works through in-depth case studies or viewing archive projects in a concise format, with a tabular view and standardized information.

An accessible, high-performing, and future-ready website

The LAND project was developed according to accessibility by design guidelines, including by the project partners, ensuring compatibility with assistive technologies, a correct semantic structure, adequate color contrasts, and an inclusive experience. Thanks to the modular infrastructure and optimized code, the site is ready to grow while maintaining high performance, sustainability, and technical solidity.

A dynamic system for application management

In the months following the site’s release, PaperPlane integrated an advanced system for application management using Contact Form 7, dynamically linked to the job position content.
The form, which is single and reusable, automatically adapts to the position thanks to automations based on the title, reference office, and job code. The system generates unique emails for each application, sent to the correct office, making the internal selection process more efficient and organized. This extension, developed at the client’s request after the go-live, demonstrates the evolutionary flexibility of the solutions developed by PaperPlane.
